MIT—Harvard HST

NEUROENGINEERING RESEARCH COLLABORATIVE

_________________________________________________________________

Overview

The MIT-Harvard HST-NERC is a community of laboratories and research groups, whose coordination is facilitated by the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST), that supports integrative research, development, and education at the interface of neuroscience and engineering. Emphasis is placed on investigations that tightly couple theoretical analysis, biological experimentation, computer simulation and device implementation. As biomedical applications are the first targets of these efforts, the collaborative interacts strongly through the Harvard Medical School (HMS) and its affiliated medical institutions which comprise the Harvard Medical Center. The second target of HST-NERC research is scientific support for the development of artificial neuromimetic systems. Toward this end, there is close interaction between the collaborative and the science and engineering departments at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. In pursuing these goals, the collaborative seeks to provide a rich environment for the training of neuroengineering students while developing productive relationships between MIT, Harvard and the neuroengineering industry.
